well I am leaving for Iraq in a month for about 15-18 months now within that time frame I'm gonna have alot of time on my hands so was wondering if trying to get certified online or some type schooling online is out of the question. I'm not looking to get a degree while I'm out there but would like to get certified or have some classes under my belt when I get out of the service.

Visit goarmyed.com. Hope you have access to an Ed Center if you need it but it shouldn't be a problem if you don't. Just contact your home ed center.
A lot of colleges like Central Texas offer programs focused on IT certifications.
You'll get all the material free and some college credit while you prepare for the test. The points aren't bad for promotion either.
Then when you get back to the civilized world you can use the GI bill or waivers to pay for the certification test.
Look into the signal schools or classes that are offered where ever you end up too for some hands on.
