I will be going to college in a year, and I am looking for a good tech college, especially ones with courses dealing with programming (especially games), or IT courses. Some colleges I was looking at are (BTW, I live in Virginia, so I want to try and find a VA college):

-Virginia Tech
-James Madison University
-University of Virginia

Or maybe a technical college, like DeVry or ECPI. If I want a good chance of a high-paying job, which kind of college is best, and what recommendations (in or within ~500 miles of D.C.) would you make? Thanks for any input.

You can try those colleges on TV or magazines. But the only school I personally know that has game design and is a 4 year university, and that's the University of Southern California (USC).

Gamer,

You are in luck. I happen to work for a research lab affiliated with UVa and w e have grad students that are from JMU, Tech and UVa.

Across the board, they all agreed UVa had a much better CS department then Tech or JMU.

Evidently UVa has a program within their CS department that allows you to tailor your coursework to whatever you want as long as you come up with a thesis and defend it before graduation.

However, Uva is rather hard to get into. Its considered the top public university in the nation.

Pennsylvania College of Technology (Affiliate of Penn State)

Excellent Technology School, I was hired by a company before I even graduated.
