My professor is looking for extra study materials for the 70-290(Managing and Maintaining a MS Server 2003 Environment). We are already looking at the exam cram books. They helped many of us get our A+ certifications. Many of us have also purchased the Self Test testing software as well.

Anything that you might have used to help you with this certification would be appreciated. Or even how you applied the study materials we already are considering that helped you are appreciated as well.
Thank you in advance

I just read the MS Press series for the MCSE and passed every exam without a failure. Helps to have a spare system or two for sandboxing your hands-on time.

We are using a MS Press book as our text book and we have also have our test servers set up in a lab. making sure to do all of the labs as well.

This is the book we are using:http://www.microsoft.com/MSPress/books/6964.asp
Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

Truth is...There isn't a very good written study guide for the 290 and 293 exams and that's unfortunate but there are some alternatives.

What you can do is research the topics covered on technet or by simply using the help and support field on a server 2003 operating system.
note: You will receive an eval copy of Enterprise upon purchasing the
70-291 or 70-294 from MS Press so learn by installng, breaking and fixing.

For the 290 you are out of luck because they are all lacking in one area or another. As an alternative you should order the video training from www.cbtnuggets.com. James Conrad is an excellent instructor and does not bore you with drab material.

FTR,
Books written by Craig Zacker (MS Press) are a big waste of money!!! Don't buy the 290 and 293 training kits from MSPress. This author has had many terrible reviews.
The 291 and 294 training kit are both good books and the only ones out of the set that I would recommend purchasing.

Secret Bonus: The best book that you can find for the 293 and 294 is this book below.

As many will say the same, you should NOT rely on books alone to pass the exams. The MCSE is heavily weighted on experience.

We found some good videos at http://www.vtc.com/products/windows_ser ... 70_290.htm . The Professor bought a copy and used it in class. Also the exam cram books(if I didn't mention it in my first post) were very useful.

Although I did not pass, mainly because we were using the Craig Zacker book, which seemed to do nothing but put all of us into a stupor. Even the lab book was of more use than the text.
