 Post subject: Tax implications for certifications

Im not sure how many people on here are aware of this.
But many of the costs associated with certifications are tax deductable. The tax implications depends if you are already in the field and your certifications are related to your job (then its a unreimbursed job expense). I personally was unaware of this, but last year my wife started a consulting as a fitness instructor and we learned all certifications exam costs, study guides, even milage to take the exams are all tax deductable.

Yeah if you could post them or pm me. My wife is a pilates instructor and is always updating her certs. so that would be a big help thanks!

Did you know clothing, equipment, etc. is also tax deductable? :) Its considered a 'uniform'. Milage driven to the gym to teach is also deductable.
TurboTax caught all of that for us. Saved us about $800 in taxes.

I thought i had the IRS links on my laptop but I dont, I will find them when I get home tonight.

If a computer was required to practice and complete the certifications that is consider 'equipment costs'. :wink:
