Maximum PC

I'm studying right now for my A+ cert with the A+ for dummies book, it seems pretty good. My question is for you guys that are repair techs right now, do you run into some of the older stuff in the A+ cert books? It seems to go into some old stuff I would never expect to run into. Also, do you think that it will be updated soon, it doesnt have hardly any of the newer technology. I find myself having to unlearn some things I know from building and troubleshooting my own PC for the A+ exam.

I'm working on my A+ also and though I don't have a job as a Tech, I can already say yes you do run into the older stuff as a matter of fact just yesterday I was trying to figure out why my grandpas keyboard wasn't working turned out the keyboard had a mini-DIN connector and the MOBO had an old 5-pin DIN connector. Also about two months ago I was trouble shooting a friends PC just to find out it had a bad SIMM bank (of course the board only had two Banks).

its not like your gonna run into and 8086 with dipps by old pentium one is the oldest most people see sometimes a 286/386/486 but its very rare

I'm currently studying for my A+ as well. I'm using A+ Complete Study Guide- Deluxe Edition. (ISBN 0782140521) I bought it for little or nothing on Amazon.com. The CompTIA Web site has a list of current books that cover all the new stuff on the A+ test. The book I just mentioned is on there, but it only goes up to Windows 2K. It's easy to read. I'm not sure about the "For Dummies" material. The bottom line is you need to know the "old stuff" for the foundation of newer technology. You will be surprised how sometimes the "old stuff" can save your a** (Even on newer technology)
