ok, im new here and im trying to get into pc gaming. I've done research on various parts and i just need some veteran advice about how to make my build better without altering the cost too much. i wish to be able to play all current games on high settings at 1920 x 1080 resolution, and be decently "future-proof" i don't really have much of a budget because im buying piece at a time but i probably couldn't afford a any one component over 300, but cheaper would be better so i could get some parts 2 at a time. i do plan to OC what i can at some point.

the parts list i have come up with so far is this:

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K

CPU Cooler: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2 Continuous Direct Contact 120mm Sleeve CPU Cooler Compatible with latest Intel 2011/1366/1155 and AMD FM1/FM2/AM3+

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 997030

HDD: Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

SSD: SAMSUNG 840 Series MZ-7TD120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

GPU: ASUS GTX660 TI-DC2O-2GD5 GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Case: XION Gaming Series XON-980-BK Black with RED LED Light Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

PSU: COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS500-PCARD3-US 500W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply

Optical drive: ASUS 24X DVD Burner - Bulk 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS - OEM

Monitor: ASUS VS Series VS228H-P Black 21.5" 5ms HDMI LED Backlight Widescreen LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 50000000:1 (ASCR)

any help in making this build better would be great appreciated.

It all looks good. My only concern is that 500W may be cutting it close to my comfort zone. 550W-600W would make me feel better.

Run it through http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine with 15% capacitor aging on the PSU. You should buy something that lies between 50%-60% utilization (this is the minimum PSU wattage). Mostly because this is where PSUs are most efficient (and happy), and making the PSU work a lot in the upper quarter range will probably lower its life.

Also emphasis should be on how much the 12V rail can supply.

that hard drive is on sale this week for 84.99 if you use this discount code EMCXWVV22 and free shipping.

and for the same money you could get a 23-24" monitor like the Zalman http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824118006

or the HP http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824176250 my current monitor is a 2711 hp and it is quite nice.

Yo slick, capitalization exists for a reason. Find your shift key and use it.

what, you didn't understand it because I didn't use caps, my hands are 70 years old, and have been beat to death working for a living, and its hard to reach the shift keys and a letter at the same time.

Ha! I didn't mean you, it was aimed at the OP. Your post slipped in between. But if the criticism fits, run with it. And don't use age as an excuse, you're better than that!
