I really think that the best oc'ing chip right now is the AMD Barton 2500+ w/333mhz FSB mobile. The mobile version comes unlocked by default, their are no tricks. To top it off, it runs much cooler than a standard 2500+. This of course allows for more/safer oc'ing.

I've heard of people that run the 2500+ Mobile at 3200+ @ ~40C I think if there was one thing I could have done differently with my latest upgrade, if would have been to get the mobile chip instead of the standard.

BTW, the 2500+ Mobile will run you about $85, the 3200+ will run you $179 at Newegg. That's a savings of $94. Ont the other hand, I have found that my standard 2500+ w/333mhz fsb came unlocked standard. If I can get it up to 3200+ I will have saved $106.

My CPU is currnenltyy running at 175mhz x 11 = 1929mhz. It's been folding for about an hour @ 48.5 C, an increase of 2.5C from 170mhz x 11.

I'm waiting for some AS5 to arrive in the mail. Once it does, I will step it up to 180mhz x 11 for a total of 1980mhz, just shy of the 2ghz mark. Then I will wait and see what temps I get and decide what to do from there.

On the other hand, theres the mobile 2400+ thats only .03ghz (or 30 mhz) slower than the 2500+. It has the same 512k cache, so theres not much of a difference. The mobile 2400+ will run you $77 @ newegg. Then, with some decent air cooling, you could reach above 3200+ speeds with acceptable temps.

I'd throw my money in behind the P4C, which most would hit 3.2-3.6Ghz on air. It's may be more expensive, but it is faster and HyperThreading can be pretty useful.

Plus, the i875 is a pretty trick chipset.

Damn, whish I knew that before.

Just spent $73 on a 2500+ w/333mhz FSB non-mobile. I could have easily have spent $4 on the mobile 2400+.

Damn, thanks for the tip, even though it's a week late,
