Maximum PC

I am looking to do my first build and would like some guidance to make sure that I am on the right track. I am looking to do a variety of tasks with the build ranging from gaming, web design, photo/video work, and every day tasks. I have done some research and come up with the following list of parts and any suggestions or comments on good/bad or different ideas would be greatly appreciated.

RAM: 2x4GB - not sure what brand to get but it needs to be DDR3 1600

DVD Drive: Again not sure what to get, just looking for 1

Storage: I was thinking of getting an SSD for the OS and whatever I am currently working on and a 7200RPM HDD for the rest of the data storage.

As far as RAM, Storage and Monitor I am not really sure what brand or models to get so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any and all help.

I was looking to stay under $1000. As to your other questions I picked what I did based on reviews that I saw for the products. As I mentioned this is my first build and I am not sure what all of my options out there are as far as whats new and so on. I will definitely look into those options though.
