I would go HDTV only because of one thing the tuner and only if you will watch TV on it. If no TV then go for a monitor since the 1080 resolution will be the same unless you look for a 2560x1600 which I doubt since it is cost prohibitive right now.

monitor and tv have the same resolution if they are HD, they use the same panels, refresh rates and so on, so a HD monitor with a built in tuner is essentially a tv.

If you decide on a tv, make sure it is HD and not 720p which is more common in smaller screen tv

What about refresh rate vs response time?

refresh rate should be 5ms or lower, a monitor can go down to 1ms depending on who makes it. response time is really only important in the television, then look for a gaming mode. which compensate for poor response times. you dont really have to worry about it in monitors, since they take gaming into consideration when they build it.

I guess other than gaming I would only be watching movies so I would think that a monitor would be best rather than a tv. Anyone have any 27" recommendations?

I like that first samsung, (but i like samsung, and use a 24" with led backlight). i am partial to led backlighting, and it has a smaller pixel pitch than the others. which will make for a better picture, and its fast.

I have noticed that some of the Samsung monitors are not wall mountable though. I'd like to try mounting it on the wall so I can swing it out when I want to watch a movie from my bed.
