A AM3 cooler should fit, AM3+ just has a different pin layout. Try a Hyper 212+, arguably the best cooler for the money.

Be cautious of the cooler you choose. For instance, I ordered a Corsair A70 cooler for my AM3 Asus "M4*****" motherboard. The A70 would fit fine, but it will install ONLY facing up and down.

(Instead of my A70 sucking air from the front side area of the case and into the exhaust fan at the back of the case, it was sucking warm air from the below GPU and blowing it upwards into the PSU area)

There is a newer coolermaster 212 out it has larger tubes so there is no space between the tubes where they touch the cpu. It is a tall cooler I think you need a 71/2 in case. I have two 212+s and they work great. Less than 50 degrees C at 3.8.

I have an AMD processor that comes with the case full of fans. My room is air-conditioned and I guess the area is enough to run it for more than 12 hours a day.Image

when you are running folding at home even on a stock clocked cpu it gets real warm. There are several utilities available to tell what the temperature is. Like speedfan and core temp. I believe most of us are running after market HSFs.

yeah, only my spare desk runs stock cpu coolers. I should weld them all together and make a cool looking tower.
