Maximum PC

I took my little 2.6 GHz Celeron from stock to 2.86 GHz there seems to be no problem on the air cooling max load temps peak at about 56 (On a stock Cooler) assuming I go to liquid cooling, do you thing it would be possible to runn this cpu at arround 3- 3.4 GHz All the time ?

System Specs:
2.6 GHz Intel Celeron (North Wood) @ 2.86 GHz
Intel D845GRG Mother Board
150 GB OLDSOMEKINDOFHDD
2 GB Mushkin Enhanced DDR 400
ASUS ATI Radeon 9250 GE (AGP)

edit: I broke 3 GHZ today on Air cooling Speed Fan reported 41 degrees

edit2: Heres 3.1 GHZ on air cooling, I had to turn the ac in the house down to 65 degrees though

edit3: I wen to a friends house today and he gave me a 2.7ghz Northwood chip, I got that one to 3.2 Ghz on air with no voltage added.

Alright I'll bite. Only because everyone else was a pu$$y. Dude, what's the point? Building a loop for your system is like putting lingerie on a fat girl. WHY?! I do admire your adventuresome spirit, and I understand that call...it beckons to me all the time screaming, "I wonder what this gear can do?!" Generally speaking though, I'm usually only concerned with tech that surfaces in the present decade. Don't waste the money my man, invest it in a new rig.

I understand what you mean but unless I can get a new rig for about 200 then its out of the question for me, besides the old hardware just seems to draw me in... and pushing the limits with what god has blessed me with is something I can't resist.

I will admit, I did think about building a phenom based rig from a tiger direct bare bones kit but I am honestly trying to save my money for bulldozer, that why I said $200 because at this time I done want to deplete my savings if bulldozer lives up to the hype.

But I'll get back to you shortly. Looking for a decent, cheap, air cooler for a dinosaur socket. If you really want to save up for Bulldozer, you really don't need to be wasting $ on water cooling for antiquated gear.

Okay strike that last barebones that I posted. While it's infinitely superior to what you're running now, and would be compatible with all your present gear, I neglected the fact that you listed an AGP video card, so here we go.

This is one of the very few copper core socket 478 coolers that I know of. It's not the best design. Zalman went through their circular cooling phase, and then everything went toward tower designs, but if you have a well ventilated case, and some decent thermal grease, this should get you where you want to go.

The Celeron Northwood came is several flavors, the fastest being 2.8Ghz if I recall correctly, so pushing past 3Ghz shouldn't be too far of a stretch. What are your temps above 3Ghz?

Had to dig for that. Your TJmax should be around 72-74C, so if you can keep it in the low 60's without adding voltage you should be good to go. If you run into a wall check your memory divisor before adding voltage. The first sign of instability with a FSB overclock is usually due to pushing the RAM too far out of spec. Try not to add any voltage if possible because the old Netburst architecture can get hot quick.

Have you bothered to try overclocking the video card yet?
