I got XPS 435 MT and I have recently brought a NZXT Tempest on discounted price and naturally I would like to t change the case for better air flow and carry on upgrading the case over time. After spending 50 dollar buying internal cable extension, I found out that it is hard to connected NZXT Tempest power switch , reset, and HD light pin to XPS 435 MT Motherboard. Dell case got 8 pin connector unlike most case to connect power switch and etc. I look at the wiring on the Dell original case and I found out that it doesn't fit as standard power switch to MB pin. If anybody know how I could connect the front panel pin from Tempest to Dell 435MT motherboard, I would like know. I know this will void my warranty but I like the Tempest case. If is impossible to do so, I will wait till Thanksgiving or new year sale and I 'll buy a new motherboard + PSU and Window 7 because I don't think Dell vista 64 OEM disc would install on new motherboard.

Thanks for helping me, I can't even reply with my mobo down and figuring out a way to connect them. I followed the aliment wiring from dell closely and stick it in Tempest and it works like a charm. I was having difficulty because I forgot to screw the supporting screw underneath the mobo and the Tempest. This is my first case assembling in 3 years and I forgot about those little supporting screws, it didn't start up anyway I line in the first place because graphic card was loose. Of course, the fault was because the mobo wasn't raise enough for the Graphic card. When I test starting the mobo by touching them with screw drivers, I finally found out why and now I got Dell XPS 435MT in NZXT Tempest and I just install window 7 with it.
This is so sweet, thanks

Dell is very proprietary. And it sounds like the connector is too.

This is a bit snide, but calling Dell and asking them why you can't other parts might be an eye opener from here on out. Build dude. It's not hard...I did it, and can't find my shoes in the morning. But find the same shoes eventually ;)

Maybe Dell was very proprietary before or with other desktop But my current XPS 435 MT work with all other alien component. I was afraid that front USB , micro headset, and eSata will not work with Tempest case but it work too well considering the fact that Dell XPS 435MT casing got different panel connector than standard casing. For example, the front panel power switch connector came in with 8 connector like front USB connector with HDD LCD connector and reset connector wiring all goes in single 8 pin connector. However, after testing each pin with screw driver and checking wires color from the Dell casing. It was easy, Tempest power on and off with XPS inside just like a normal board. Beside PSU is not proprietary anymore, I guess Dell must have changed.

I'm about to try the same thing: move the Dell 434MT motherboard to a Cooler Master HAF 912 case and am faced with the same challenge. I have to understand the motherboard pinout configuration to connect the power switch, light, hard drive light, and reset switch.

Any help would be appreciated.

if i were you i wouldnt even bother with the Dell parts..its a lost cause.

ive owned Dell's for yrs and yrs and just got fed up with all the proprietary parts.

several yrs ago i bought a Dell XPS 710. the upgrade possibilities were very limited.

i was stuck with ddr2 667 ram,and couldnt upgrade it to any faster ram.

i also tried to upgrade the gpu's..it came with 1 gtx 8800..tried to upgrade to 2xgts 250's thru Dell..which were incompatible.

good thing i purchased the extended warranty, because 3 yrs into ownership the mobo went out,and they couldnt replace it..so they sent me a piece of crap alienware aurora, and again most of it was proprietary..the mobo and power supply couldn't be changed with any off the shelf parts..same as the XPS 710. good luck finding any Aurora parts on Ebay.

my point is this..if you want a pc that you can be proud of..build your own!..i did..the only thing i was able to use from the Alienware Aurora was the HDD's and the CPU and the gts 240 for physx in my current build..which i am very proud of.

if anything were to break down i can just go to my nearest pc store and get the parts right off the shelf or just order them from newegg.

besides Dell charges astronomical amounts of money for parts that arent under warranty.

just my 2 cents worth..take it or leave it.

Well, I hate saying this for a Dell who are notorious for NOT following standards, but it likely follows the standard.

But ASUS, who makes many motherboards for big box mfg.'s DOES NOT follow the standard. I don't know whether they follow this practice for OEM boards they sell to big box. If that 8 pin connector is a ASUS Q-connector, all four wiring harnesses should pull off of it and pay attention to what each one is and transfer the Q-connector onto the new cases' wiring harnesses and plug it back into the board.

Lastly, it is rare that a motherboard does not have the pinouts silkscreened onto the board if not near the pins somewhere on the board.

in my experience with Dell they used neither Asus or any other name brand Motherboard manufacture..in fact their mobo's have their own logo on the board either XPS or the Alien head for their alienware products.
