ok if I was to overclock my pc
what would be the best way? I am a complete novice to overclocking anything in years

the basics of the machine in question

asus P6T ver 1
i7 940
family A model A Stepping 4
ext family A ext model 1A Revision C0/C1

I have the cooler master Hyper 212 plus processor cooler
ddr3 is 3x4gb of Patriot 10600 1333 MHZ at 1.50 volts

there are 2 EVGA 570 video cards in SLI

the power supply is a Corsair Gold AX 1200 watt

and its all inside a cooler master HAF 932

so you have an idea of where it lives an breathes

now how do I make it go FASTER?

Try doing a google search for OCing the i7. There's tons of info on it and overclock.net has a lot info as well.

Easiest way is to slowly bump up the base clock until you can no longer pass some kind of stress test. (Such as Intel burn test) Once you reach that threshold begin bumping the vcore and cpu pll voltage. Thats basically the method I have developed. If the 940 C0 stepping is the same as the 920 then it will not over clock as well as say the D0 but 3.3-3.6 should be attainable.
