Eh guys. Recently I was having a problem with my CPU multiplier stepping even though all power saving and turbo features were turned off in the bios. I was using 1103 Asus bios, thinking that it was new enough and looking at 1108 only showing "support for new CPUs."

No matter what I did, my power was fluctuating as was the multiplier from 27 down to 26... every few seconds as the load on the cpu changed during folding.

I finally did some research and even older posts were indicating an updated BIOS seemed to help. So I tried it-

And now I'm totally rock solid- no fluctuating at all. I'm hoping this will help overcome some of the OC instability I've been having too.

Anyway- just a note for those of you quietly tolerating the same problem.

The BIOS probably defaulted to manual something you had in Auto. Clocks will never fluctuate when you tell it not too. Sounds like you had it in C-state where the multi changed upon load. They're made to do that. You know how to stop it from doing that? I do...thousands others do too. You really made a thread about this and it wasn't fixed within a minute?

And for future reference, "Power" is the common term of "Energy sucked from the wall", not benchmarks. I have a 60-watt light bulb at my desk; never passed one benchmark.

But you outshoot us Americans with non-plastic rifles, so I'd love to hear your take on what ails ya ;)

Gee- makes me glad I'm folding for team MPC.

Thanks for the lecture on lightbulbs too- that was valuable. Real "enlightening."

Keep the powder dry.

Okay so I was rock solid with my multiplier now that it seems the BIOS is all caught up... but while I thought I had stability at 160x27 it appears that I in fact did not.

I've since dropped it back down to 160x26 and it's been folding for about 3 days straight. Seems okay.

I've read that with 12G of RAM I need to up voltage to IOH and possibly ICH approximately .1v... Anyone had any success with this? Just floating it out there.
