this last week or two i decided to dabble in oc'ing. i set some things in bios and got the cpu up to 2.3ghz. i dont have a cooling system other than what came with the cpu (a fan i think). i did not have any issues until today when i was running a backup and a couple of things (dont remember what they were) and i got a bsod. i decided play time was over and set verything back to auto.

how far can this particular cpu normally oc to? i had cool and quiet running with the oc too. i did not mess with the voltage that i can remember. any thoughts? i am major overhauling wednesday so basically i am just curious (being new to tweeking)

That CPU won't OC much without aftermarket cooling .. the stock heatsink and fan are adequate for cooling the CPU at stock speeds and that's about it.

I've got a 4200+ and I didn't go any further than a 10% OC (2.2GHz -> 2.42GHz) with stock cooling and a voltage bump of +0.05v. With full load on both cores in a very muggy 90°F room, I'm getting temps of 55°C. Any further overclocking would make better cooling absolutely mandatory.
