Hey guys, long time reader and first time poster. This site has been a great resource for me.

Quick question. I'm looking to build a new PC and I am interested in getting fans and perhaps a cpu fan with LEDs.

The problem is that I don't want the LEDs to be on all the time. Are there any case fans and/or cpu fans where you can turn the LED off without turning the fan off?

Will I have to custom mod that with my own switch? I can do that if necessary, but I would rather just pay a little extra for the fans and have it professionally done. Thanks a bunch!

First welcome to the MPC Forums!

I don't know of any off the shelf LED fans that offer that option, not to say it doesn't exist just to say I am not aware of any. Your post did get me to thinking and I looked at an 80 mm fan I have lying here with LEDs in it. This one would be very easily modded. If you have the interest I could take some pictures and post them as to how I would go about it.

That would be fantastic! Thanks!

I can get access to any basic equipment. I know how to solder as well, just not quite sure what the proper connections would be with those fans lol.

we are probably on the same page here. on the ones Ive seen all you would need to do is cut a lead that goes to the ribbon cable the the LEDs are on and put a SPST switch on it?

not sure all LED fans use that method though.

That was my take looking at the victim fan I had lying here. Everyday generic Antec labeled fan. The 3 wires fan connector line runs up a small channel to the fan motor. Lifting those wires out and out of the way reveals the pair that go to the foil. Just cut the red (+) and place a simple SPST switch in there and that would do it for a fan like this.
