Anyone here have any thoughts on making the motherboard tray removable.

I've seen several cases i really like for a new system but none have a removable MB tray and the ones i find with them are very $$$.

It seems it would be any easy mod.

You'd prolly have to drill out the pot rivets holding the original tray to case. In addition you'd have to cut the rear of the case out (I/O sheild, PCI slot, etc) so the tray could slide out. Lastly, you'd have to find a way to secure the new tray once you install it. That means building a track to slide it in/out or driling holes to screw the motherboard tray into the case.

Not to mention re-riveting the case so it doesn't fall apart, as the tray is probably part of the structure as well.

Just kinda thinking out loud. It'd be a big project

Your right, the cases that come with the removable tray are more expensive, but they are usually of higher overall quality. I bought a Lian Li several years ago for $100, and its a great case.

Thanks for the advice.

The Lian Li Replacement Removable Motherboard Tray - PC-6X
would be the way to go for modding a case.

Through the performance-pcs.com web site i found (previously unknown) Ultra cases.
I Purchased the Ultra Aluminus ATX Full-Tower Case
http://www.ultraproducts.com/product_details.php?cPath=13&pPath=411&productID=411
through Amazon.com for $86 total!

2 great finds and a case!
