I was just like you when I came to the forums. Ok when you want to change your original post, you click EDIT it the top right hand corner of the message frames and edit the text, not start a new thread. And after I got flamed 10 or 20 times for my spelling I started to spell check it on word. I suggest you do the same.

Crap from me. Check the modders Resource list (MRL) or just use google.

Taylor,

Lets have a chat.

I know your are new in this forum.

You need to stop making new threads on similar subjects so close in time to each other. The mods consider it spamming. Any of the threads you have posted in this folder are good places for the conversation you want to have on the subject of your xbox/PC idea/mod.

Stop starting new ones each time there is a slight change in what you think. Use the ones you have already started for discussion. You are a newbie - it will take some time for you to get a hang of the rules. They are not always obvious :)

On another front, you need to "have a discussion" with folks that post to your threads. It still isn't clear if you are even willing to learn to build your own system. Nor is it clear if you have a budget and what that is.

All of this could have been discussed in the first thread you posted.

Lastly - I think this thread you started really gets to the heart of the matter - and you should stick with this one.

Do you want to build a gaming PC?

If the answer is yes, just tell us in this thread. There are pleanty of books. From there - we can look at the xbox issue.

You seems rather excited :)

Take it a step at a time - you have a good idea, but it will take time :)

Manta

oh yeah - and Gamer speaks truth.

I think my xbox is faster than my computer.

No seriously, same CPU speed I think (733MHz PIII), but the xbox has a geforce 3. My computer only has a geforce 2 tnt2 with 32mb of ram. But I do have 512mb of ram in my computer. Take that microsoft.

Would my xbox card be compatable with my computer?

And another question, Is a xbox basicly the same as a computer only

1) The hard drive is formated differently

and

2) different hardware

:?: :?:

Good question.

No it isn't possible without re-engineering parts. And by the time you are done its not an xbox anymore really. Plus - it would be VERY pricy.

I know what you want to do now - you want a portable xbox/pc?

Am I right?

Do you have a computer right now (that you are allowed to mod)?

Do you have an xbox (that you are allowed to mod)?

I think its great you wanna mod at such an early stage. You could be a pro in no time. But the tools are dangerious (ok - not all of them) and it takes money, time, and patience. I don't want to discourage you - just let you know what you are in for. Learning this stuff could start you on a great career path of programming, engineering, technology/science consulting, fabrication, you name it!

However, I think you are being a bit over ambitious with your first mod. I know its what you want, but it would tax even a very good modder and it would cost a bit.

Here is my advice, pick one of the following to start with:

Personalize (mod) an xbox so it doesn't look like anyone elses.
This is a good primer into some of the techniques you can use to mod things - and if it doesn't work the xbox should still function and you are not out any money really. Even if the xbox does break you are not out much.

    Make a small "fragbox".
Its just a PC, but its portable and its for games and LAN parties. You will learn the tricks of the trade getting all the right stuff in a tiny box.

Last choice, advanced - Make your xbox into a PC.
We have a member that can help you with this (or the first choice) and you can keep your current xbox and just get a cheap broken one from ebay to mod.

What do you think?

Manta

Wow - we get you to stop posting new threads and you actually ask a question that needs one.

Go ask this question in a new thread (just one) in the "Hardware Heaven" folder. Tell them you are a newbie here. If they give you any flak let me know.

I could answer the question, but you need the practice of the rules of the forum and folks over there can give you a better answer than me :)

Your question was about computer hardware and not modding after all.

BTW - you didn't do anything wrong.

If they don't give you an answer in a day or so, post back here in THIS thread and I will drag one of them over here to give you a proper answer.

Are the rules starting to make sense yet? It can take a bit.

If they give you a good answer, tell them thanks - they hate it when no-one thanks them.

Only ask them about this question (pentium M), not about modding, or computer problems.

Yeah. I would probably be making a lot more money if I had been hanging round here at that age :)
