Maximum PC

My toshiba satellite 1805-s203 died. I want to salvage what I can by using the monitor with my desktop. Can anyone tell me how? Also, I am planning on incorporating my laptop's dvd rom with my desktop, but external to it. Do I need to set it up with a cooling fan or anything?
In case you haven't noticed, I'm just getting started and learning. Any help is appreciated.

i would like to know what it would take also, but my plan is for a in car PC and i figured that a screen out of a dead laptop would be cheaper than an LCD monitor. and i can get them in smaller sizes.

on the DVD-ROM, i would say no u wouldnt need cooling, they dont get any cooling in the laptop as far as i can tell, so i would think it would be fine. i may be wrong tho. even desktop optical drives dont reqiure much cooling if any.

i also have a laptop with working lcde, but not much else

last I heard this was rather expensive. flat screen computer monitors have controls built into them which are specific to each maker and model. Because laptops don't have this feature (it's controlled by other means which aren't easily adaptable to PC's) you have to get a card to control the screen. You can check out www.mp3car.com for more details. While there are some makers of these cards for pcs, they remain pretty expensive. If you do find any alternative cheaper mothods please post them. I would also love to know.
