Maximum PC

Hey all, I'm a first time case modder and I'm planning a ambitious build, and I think I have the basics sketched out for a build of a case from scratch. The only thing that I'm not really sure on how to do is the drive rack. I'm not entirely sure how to go about building and installing the bays. Any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated. Well, sorry to sound like I'm talking down on ya or anything...but if a hard drive rack is hard to come up with, the rest is going to be killer....

It's basicly just a place to mount the devices. A piece of metal with holes drilled in it. The canvas is wide open, and there's hardly any limitations. 5-1/4" or 3-1/2" wide. You can mount on anything you want, so I guess I don't see the limitation here...sorry mate.

sheet metal and rivets work wonders for making and attaching the drive bay.

Take a case and measure the current drive bay.

check www.formfactors.org for other info. There is no actual specification for drive bays though.

Well, consider getting a donor case from Directron. Usually, you can drill out the rivits that hold the drive cage in.

There are also options on "wire mounting" hardware that are kewl.

In one MPC ROTM, A guy rubber band mounted his drives.

Also - plumber tape - which isn't really tape. Not sure what its really called. Its metal straping with holes in it at regular distances.

It's called Strapping Tape.

there's also Teflon tape which is moisture resistant, but might not be strong enough to hold up a HD.

Yay! for working at a hardware store... I might be quiting or getting fired in the next week though... >_<

Ya, sorry dude. I couldn't come up with better wording. I really didn't mean to be rude there.

I can't come up with anything really until I see the situation. If this is built from scratch, then I can't visualize how or where you'll place things. The doner case is a great idea actually. Or just some simple L-brackets made out of some sheet metal to mount them anywhere you please.

L brackets would work just fine. Get em in various sizes @ lowes/home depot.
