From the guy that brought you the gold medal winning (I love saying that) wooden computer case comes a small side project: the wooden USB drive!

I haven't been doing much of anything wood-working related since I finished the computer case back when winter first showed it's cold, ugly face. I've built some small utility projects around the house, but nothing that didn't take more than my table saw and some screws. The weather has been great for the past few days and it appears that I can expect it to get up 25C and sunny for the rest of the week. Since this is pretty much perfect weather to be building in, I decided to get back on the saddle and see what I could do.

I drew out a quick sketch of a wooden USB drive enclosure which will be 1â€

All right, I'm back with another post after working for a few hours after I got home from work this afternoon.

This post will have to be split up for the CAD forums unfortunately because of the images per post limit.

Yesterday left off with the main “barâ€

This is the third and second last update.

I have put about 6 man hours into this project (excluding waiting for glue to dry) and I'm nearly done! Today there are more pictures than words, I think, so that'll be a nice change.

This is the result of gluing the “plugâ€

I couldn't wait until tomorrow to let this thing dry, so I present you with the finished wooden USB drive! I tied on a lanyard too in order to show the use of the hole in the back. The key won't be totally dry until Sunday but it's dry enough to take pictures of!

Oh and yes, it still works.

I think it looks great plugged into the wooden case, and I think it matches it perfectly with it's red oak stripe. I'm very happy with how it turned out and it only took about 8 hours total.

Maybe I'll take orders some time if I can get some cheap drives to tear apart.

You are one amazing woodworker. Nice job. The USB drive compliments the case very much.

Thank you very much. :)

I am very pleased with how it turned out. I'm thinking about making a cap for it but since that would be so small, it's turning out to be a lot hard to design and cut than I would have hoped.
