It seems more and more people are suggesting this app for encryption. One thing I do not understand is if I make a section of my hard drive to truecrypt and always leave it open for me will other people in my network see what is inside the hard drive or will they see a hard drive and need to put a password to see what is inside? Or will the hard drive be hidden and my computer is the only one to see it.
I have read the help me documents however it does not say if other people could see my encryption file if I leave it open.

The answer is yes, but it really depends on your setup. You seem to be a bit unclear on networking. For the most part (except for exploits), you have to open up your computer in order for others to access your data.

If TrueCrypt is mounted, anyone accessing the computer can see the data in the clear.

In terms of networking,
1) If you let people log in remotely, they can see the data.
or
2) If you don't let people log in remotely, but you share the mounted TrueCrypt volume, they can see the data.

If you don't do these, they can't access the data.
