Maximum PC

So,

Have a remote help issue. Trying to fix relative's computer from afar.

SYmptoms (from user - answering my questions):

1. Yes, I can logon, but it blips, starts with Gateway, blips, takes its time, hiccups, until it finally opens. Then it says it just had a major problem. (I forget the language.)

2. Cleanup and defrag. 1.80 GHz and 267 MB of Ram. 80% free. Yes, I compress and delete temporary files.

3. Word document is frozen. 489 KB. I have backups from 6/15/04, and I've tried to get into the document by going into Word, and then by using Open/Explore, but it's still frozen.

4. The MS firewall on my computer is OK, (ICF is on IOW)

Now, she says that this all started after she installed adaware and Spybot sd.

XP Home. Any ideas?

i would doubt that either progam screwed all that up....too many people have had no trouble with the two programs...

virus software? windows updates?

I'm going to guess either they upgraqed the gateway release to XP, and they should do a clean install as opposed to an upgrade, or they loaded some peice of software that condlicts with some of that preloaded crap that gateway dishes out...McAfee comes to mind as IIRC, they install Norton on there for you.

The Word File problem was solved by changing the name of the file.
