Hey folks,

I am new here and love the sites. But I was surprised to when Ad-ware and SpyBot say there are junks being downloaded to my computer. I doubt it is this site doing the dirty work, but I can assure you that I got those junks while being here. I know this because I spent 10 minutes running Ad-ware, then 6 minutes running SpyBot prior to getting online. While online, I visit only this site and its magazine site (excellent reading there). Occasionally, I click on links within the site posted by users for things such as video, CNN news about that dude drove home drunk after having his buddy's head snatched by the power line, and other non-porn or advertisement sites. Then I run Ad-ware and SpyBot again. I get about 5 to 10 junks files. Most of them are neglectable and are probably just adware. However, there were 2 instances where they are spywares. I don't know much about spyware beside the fact that they are bad and stupid. I know enough to have firewall, antivirus, Ad-ware, SpyBot, and even Norton CDs that handles everything.

I questions is, does this forum check the links users posts. I know spammers are banned here and that is good, but what about the safety of links.

Last but not least, thanks for making sure there are no porn links here.

Nope. Nothing is 'checked' ... even porn. Many links go unchecked simply because of the size of the forum.

If a user finds something against the rules, they can warn the mods. Often, the mods will find it on their own. [PC] members are also quite vigilant in reporting infractions and assorted nastiness ... but you should never assume that a link is 'safe' ... the mods can't be everywhere at once.

Having said that ... practice safe surfing, and install and use a fire wall and a good AV program ... that will keep you safer than anything that can be done by the mods. :)

It would be nearly impossible to check every link...if there's something offensive, most people include a warning anyway, or if it has alot of popups and spyware, they might say so.

Like Jip said, you need to be aware of the risks you take clicking the links and be sure your system is properly proctected.

What your finding, if you look, is its just tracking cookies that adaware is pulling up. Not real spyware, just the cookies from the website. Adaware and spybot will both pick those up and say they found spyware. I wouldnt worry about it : )

I am not worrying about it because they're super low risk or no-risk junk. However, I was just curious if there is a online neighborhood watch on MaxPC beside the mods. If there is, I like to join whenever a new system arrive.

just use firefox, ie sucks. IE is a joke when it comes to security. Most every exploit out their you experience while browsing target internet explorer vulnerabilities.
