I'm trying to reinstall Windows, but I keep getting the error saying I need to use the upgrade CD. It's a dumb error and I'm trying to get around it by del some things so it doesn't see the os. Guess it doesn't work

How are you trying to run that? Usually you just want to run it out of a dos prompt off of a bootdisk.

yeah I'm running it off a Win98 SE boot disk, then loading setup. Just says there is already a os installed and I need the upgrade cd to install windows. isn't that funky?

You won't be able to reinstall the OS by trying to nuke the individual files that comprise it ... you'll just b0rk your PC.

Back up your software and data, and reinstall completely. Consider investing in a better OS, such as WinXP, so you don't have this problem in the future. :)
