I have a hp pavilon ze5400 and the floppy wont format disks. No matter where is lide the tab it says, windows was unable to compleat format, or floppy is write protected, i cant do it through Dos ether. And when the drive spins it isnt a normal sound its a scratchy sound. Is there anything i can do to fix it?

throw it in the fire and buy a new one because it's more than likely defunct.

and don't worry about cost. These suckers are 10-15$ for a brand-spanking new one, big spender...

yea...time for a new drive.

If you don't feel comfortable with ordering a replacement and changing it on your own, get a USB drive..
