First the problem:
Random songs will not play in windows media player. Mostly it's whole albums, sometimes there is a single song from an album that will play, it seems random. It's not just one type of music it is various types. I have some music CD's I loaded up as MP3's and some of those will not work, I also have quite a few Amazon MP3's and some of those don't work either. On a side note I can play all my music in VLC, it's just a pain having to reload all the playlists and songs.

What may have led to this:
I recently purchase a LG Blu Ray multi Disc player/writer with M disc support. Obviously it didn't come with any software. I figured, incorrectly, that I could play Blu Ray in WMP. I did a search for WMP Blu Ray codecs and found what seemed to be a good one that had codecs for Blu Ray playback in WMP. I installed it and it didn't work.
I installed a trial version of CyberLink's Power DVD 14, it worked but had crappy sound and when asked to adjust my monitors resolution (I said yes) the picture got real choppy and audio was out of sync. I did ask tech support and they referred me to their forums where there is a fix for that, but I need to join their forums to see the fix... I already belong to enough forums and from what I have seen they have horrible tech support on their forums. I ended up running a trial version of Corel's Win DVD pro, which works great, but it is a trial.
It looks like I will be purchasing the Nero suite for Blu Ray play and record functions (I need software that will utilize my LG Blu Ray player/writer to it's fullest), but in the meantime if anyone knows of a free fix to get either media player or media center (or even VLC) to play Blu Ray that would be awesome!

Back to the problem:
I uninstalled both the codec pack and Power DVD 14 after I realized I had this problem in WMP, but neither helped.
I tried the corrupted library fix in the windows forums by going into the media player folder and deleting all the files so WMP would reload everything, but it didn't work. I think I probably need to reset WMP so it will clear out any residual codecs left over from that codec pack (if that is the culprit).
Anyone know of a good fix for this problem?
Please Help!
Bruce

Try using Ccleaner,s registry section to clean out the registry, there may be left over cruft from installing various codecs that are causing some issues. When you are done, reboot.

I would have said roll back your system to before you started installing any of this stuff using System Restore.

Confirm everything is now working as it did before.

Then install the app you finally decided upon and see if it works without mucking up your media player.

I am afraid for BluRay playback of copy protected material I am unaware of any Windows apps that are free unless they came with your drive. edit: I am aware now: Potplayer

I really hate to suggest this since it doesn't solve the problem but... I'd advise using something other than WMP. Winamp Pro is now free and is an excellent "do-all" music player (I don't use the video player aspect of it), as is Foobar2K. VLC and Media Player Classic are excellent "do-all" media/video players. I've never had a problem with either and I use those programs because I have file formats that WMP won't play.

As for Blu-Ray playback, there's no free options except as mentioned, but I'm pretty sure you can find a free tool to rip it (Handbrake?) if you so desire.

I found a work around in a windows forum where I use this program to copy then convert it so I can watch it, but I don't want to have to go through all that.
I have Foobar and VLC, they're nice but missing somethings I find useful in WMP. WMP hasn't let me down yet as any file I find that doesn't work in WMP I can usually find codecs for. I have had issues with a corrupt library but was able to fix it via the windows forums. I've tried many other media players out there over the years but I keep going back to WMP, mostly because of familiarity, partially because it has more continuous and steady support than anything else.

I'll let you all know if anything works. If not, how do I uninstall WMP then re-install it?

If you're using Windows 7/8, it's in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features -> Add/Remove Windows Features (in the left pane) -> Media.

I forget if this is in Vista. I keep WMP on the system because I'm afraid a program will freak out it doesn't exist.

Apologies for the lengthy wait..

I tried removing WMP via add remove programs twice and it didn't work. Does that method rest the codecs? I am still having the problem but at least it's not spreading to more songs. I was thinking of seeing if reloading some of the music via my CD's and re-downloading the ones I purchased from amazon will help correct the problem.

I am going between WMP and VLC to play my music, which is annoying. The problem with VLC is that doesn't find some of the music in the WMP playlists as their references still point to the old drive letter. WMP doesn't have that problem it automatically finds the song in the new drive....FYI this has nothing to do with the issue I am having and WMP not playing certain songs. Even if I go into my music folder in explorer and click on the individual songs WMP still will not play them.
