Just installed full version of Windows 8.1. Gigabyte 970A-UD3P mobo, Radeon HD7770 video card, FX-6300 CPU, and 1 8 GB stick of DDR3 1600 RAM. It installed with no problems, but when I get to desktop (or whatever they call it now) after a minute or two, the screen goes black and the computer freezes. I can restart and get back to desktop , but it just crashes again.

I've uninstalled, reformatted, and reinstalled it twice, but no luck,it keeps doing the same thing. Any suggestions as to what could be the problem

You probably have a hardware issue. I would start with checking RAM, but I think someone will come along with a more expanded list of things t odo.

Get a copy of any Linux distro that runs from a live CD. Run that and see if the freeze still happens. If it does then you have a hardware problem/driver problem.
If it doesn't freeze, then you could have a problem with the hard drive or the 8.1 install or some driver, etc. The reason I include the hard drive is that when using Linux on the live cd you aren't using the hd. The Linux is run off the cd.
A ram test would be first on the list as it is also the easiest.
If the ram checks out good I would then reinstall drivers.
If none of that helps, then we get down to other tests.

Well you have received some excellent advice.

The only other things I would ask are:

Is the BIOS up to date?
Did you install the latest drivers?
Did you upgrade the OS completely?
Is the boot drive set to AHCI?
Was this a clean install or an upgrade?
Is this a new build?
Does it do this in safe mode?
Try a CMOS reset per MB manual.

Loaded up the Ubuntu distro and was able to determine that I had a bad video card. Popped the brand-new card out, re-installed the old working one and everything seems to working now. Thanks for the help.
