Greetings all!

So, I've been playing with my newish Windows 7x64 laptop, and for some reason, I can't set it to hibernate. I specifically want it to hibernate after it's been left alone for a set time, so that Truecypt will activate... if it goes to sleep, you can wake it up without having to decrypt the drive again. Hibernating cause Truecrypt to re-encrypt the drive so that my laptop is protected from prying eyes.

So, I've gone to "change plan settings" on my power plan, and "change advanced power settings" on my (modified) balanced plan. Then I go to the "sleep" settings... I was able to set sleep to NEVER, and I turned hybrid sleep off.

However, although I can set "Hibernate after" to whatever I want on battery and plugged in, and I can hit "Apply" and "OK", it doesn't save that setting... I can immediate open advanced power settings again and the "hibernate after" settings will both be set to "Never".

Any suggestions? I know hibernate mode works, as I can manually set it via the power button, and I've set the laptop to hibernate if you close the lid while it's turned on. I just can't get it to hibernate after it's been left on for a while.

Thanks!

Do you have it set up properly?

If yes, then something can be interfering with it. Make sure BIOS and ALL drivers are up to date.

From the Command Prompt as Administrator:

powercfg –lastwake [to see what the last device was that woke the PC]

powercfg -devicequery wake_armed [which devices are set to wake the PC from sleep]

powercfg -h on [makes sure hibernate is on, but since you can hibernate I don't think this is the answer]

Back up boot drive image. Try SFC /scannow. Repair install.

My laptop is set to sleep after 20 min of inactivity and it will hibernate after 4 hours.

Yeah, it's set up properly, as near as I can tell. I even found that page already, when I was googling for answers before I posted here.

Everything is up to date, too...
