Hello, I recently upgraded the CPU in my laptop from a Celeron B820 to an i3 3110m. I am now facing a really annoying problem. Every 30 minutes the laptop would shutdown without warning. The chipset is HM70 if that plays a role in this. If it does I find it strange that it works problem free for 30 minutes then just shuts down. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Phil

Check the system log (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> System) and look for errors.

The only error I could find stated that the system did not shutdown cleanly. The source is Kernel-power.

Does the laptop feel really hot where the processor is?

Leave the laptop on in BIOS and see if it shuts down. And if it does, then I suspect your laptop just hates it.

Plug the old processor back in and if the problem goes away, it doesn't like the new processor.

The old processor works fine, guess this laptop does not like this new processor then. Thanks for your help.

Did you upgrade the heat-pipe array to the correct one for the CPU you bought? Its shutting down from overheating more than likely.

I already covered that base earlier with him and both processors have the same TDP anyway.
