Hello,

I recently had a Nexus 7 stolen. I was curious if there was anyway to track down the device, or possibly get Google to help in locating the device? I am aware that there are apps. available on the Android Play Store, such as the B Plan, and that Google recently rolled out the Android Device Manager to help with tracking a lost device. Unfortunately, it appears that either the Nexus 7 was wiped and a new account was put on there, in which case I figure that I can no longer track the device, or that the device has run out of juice and died. I suspect that it was stolen primarily because it was last used on August 11th according to the Android Device Manager on Google. My tablet was stolen on the 2nd of August.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best I can say is to contact Google. They may be able to help.

I just did that and unfortunately they said there is nothing they can do. I'm curious if when the tablet is wiped back to factory default settings and install, if that means the account associated with the device will no longer track it on Android Device Manager. While the account may not be on the device any longer, the device is still registered to the original account, which I would think would allow me to track the device.

The MAC address or IMEI code will always identify the device, they are assigned to the device when its made, and cannot easily be changed. You could use those numbers to locate it.
