 Post subject: Buying and installing a new hdd.

I need to replace my hdd in my tower because it crashed on me. I don't have a windows 7 OS cd but i do have the product key and how will i be able to install windows 7 on the new hdd. My tower is a computer that i paid for at wal-mart about 4 or so years ago and they don't come with windows OS cds.

Download the edition that you have and either burn it to a DVD or make a bootable thumb disk.

Thanks alot for the link and is there a step by step guide on how to make a usb thumbdrive bootable like that. Is there also a link for an iso for windows xp from mircosoft cause i also a have a product key for xp.

Creating USB install drive

As far as Windows XP, it's not distributed officially in ISO form.

You will have to find someone with a disk (retail or OEM) for the version of XP covered by the product key (Home, Pro, MCE) to burn you a image copy (with same volume label).

Well i got a new hdd and replaced my old one but i don't know what do next when i started up my pc please help.

Ok i had to put my install disc in but now it says remove disc then restart but how do i restart from there, i tryed a restart by taking the disc out and closing the message and then clicking the x but that way cancels the install process.


I think i did right after following some instructions i find online.
