Hey guys, I have a problem. I just re-installed XP on a Samsung 840 Pro 256gb SSD, and am having issues with it freezing up, actually restarting on me. I dual boot this rig with Win 7 Pro, which is installed on a Vertex3 256gb SSD, and it is rock solid in all conditions.
The XP install is restarting when idle, after it has been running anywhere from 45 minutes to 6 hours, it seems to be random. I was seeing a JRAID error in the event log about 5 minutes before each restart event. I figured out that it was related to my external e-SATA drive, so I turned it off. The problem still occurs, and now there are no errors or warnings in the event log, save an occasional tcpip one, but that doesn't seem to directly precede the restarts. I have automatic restarts turned off, so I don't think that it is blue screening before the restarts, just when I come back I am back at the log in screen.
It is not currently overclocked at all. I have run memtest86 for 6 passes without errors.
My gut feeling is that it isn't hardware related because the Win 7 install is solid using all the same hardware. And I have run prime95 for 8 hours without issue on the Win 7 install. I was at first thinking power supply, but considering the stability of the 7 install I don't think that would be it. Do you think it is possible that there was just a burp in the XP install process that is causing this? I don't mind re-installing it is that will remedy the problem, but it is a PITA so I don't want to have to do it over and over.
The rig specs are:
ASUS p8p67 Deluxe MB
16GB corsair Vengeance RAM
(2) EVGA 560ti video cards
Sound Blaster PCI Audigy 2 ZS sound card
4 port add in PCE-E SATA controller
6 mechanical hard drives, from 500Gb to 2TB
Corsair AX850 power supply
(2) Samsung DVD drives
Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is kicking my ass...
