Hello everyone,

I recently moved into my friends place and he has century link dsl with wireless. I am normally connected through a Ethernet cable with no issues but they're in the process of relocating the router to a different room so as of right now I am on wireless. I get connection drops every 5-20 minutes and while gaming this gets to be very annoying. His laptop also experiences the problems but the two other laptops in the house have no issues.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Marc

If you have any substantial amount of metal (which includes things like filing cabinets and mirrors) between you and the router, it'll create a crappy signal.

EDIT: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/wirele ... gation/143 is probably a good read too.

If the router is set to auto channel and there are a bunch of other devices nearby that are also broadcasting wireless (neighbors wireless, portable home phones, and even some microwaves etc.) its possible that the router is channel hopping. If you can get into the router, try setting a manual channel at 1, 6, or 11 if its on auto or a different channel if its already manually set and see if that improves the signal.
