Ok, here's the problem with my Compaq Presario V3600 Keyboard .
I turned on the computer. Good.
I clicked on my user account. Good.
I started to type. Bad.
The only keys that registered were( I checked) Space, Backspace(Which oddly registered as a character in the password screen) and M(Which oddly registered as Enter).
It's definitely a computer problem. I 'borrowed' my dad's USB keyboard in hope it worked. Yes? No. So where's the problem?

thanks in advance)

Hey SmithJames, welcome to the forums!

Sorry for the delay in post approval, we've been swamped in spam. :/

I'd double-check the connection with the main-board. Those ribbon cables can be really tricky to get plugged in right.

Also, I'd double-check that you have the correct orientation, and don't have the ribbon plugged in "up-side-down". I've seen several that fold back onto themselves and therefore plug in from the opposite side you'd first expect.

One other situation I've seen this is if the BIOS is configured to use a non-US English language.

I was once working on an old Konica R1 photo lab printer, it was a beast with 6 tanks with 10 gallons of liquid chem each. The whole thing was controlled by a PC hidden inside the larger chasis (large being industrial freezer-size). When it ran into an issue I plugged in a keyboard, but the darn thing was programmed to use Japanese at the BIOS level with the keyboard interface. Took me a while to figure out which keys to press to change it back!

Peace,
Dan O.
