Okay you smarty pants people, now is the time to post all your really kewl tips and tricks. Even if they seem silly someone may not know.

Here, I'll start us off with an easy one.

1) The program Bootvis.exe (The service Task Scheduler needs to be set to automatic or you'll get the error "Timeout While Waiting Schedguled Service to start" Then under that box you'll a box that say you need to defrag your system manually!

Changing your Parallel Port from ECP to EPP will free up more UDMA resources for HDDs and Optical Drives.

Yes, I've got one system where if I set the Parallel Port to ECP it steals the UDMA resources from my secondary HDD which drops down to PIO Mode 4. Setting it to EPP frees up the resources and the drive operates at ATA/100.

Go to Start, then Control Panel, then to "Administrative Tools" (if you have XP Home or Pro), then click on Services. Click on the Extended tab on the bottom, because it will give you more details. Find the Messenger service. Ask yourself, " Do I or the network really need this service ? " Unless you or your sysadmin can answer yes, you need to disable it, because you can get " Messenger spam" this way or it can used as a hacker door into your system. BTW, there are other services you can disable but don't disable anything unless you really know what you are doing, because XP won't play nice with you afterward
