 Post subject: notepad error?!?

i just ran a full restore on my main computer a week ago and after i full restored it it wouldnt open any notepad files directly by clking on them i had to open notepad and explore to them to get them to open now whenever i try to open notepad so i can open these files i get an error saying notepad is not a user program what is with this i have never seen this problem before any ideas or anyone know what is causing it the icon for notepad changed to a generic run program box too so i have no idea

Try:

1) Right clicking the file
2) Selecting 'open with'
3) Highlighting 'notepad'
4) Checking the box that reads 'always use the selected program to open this kind of file'
5) Click 'ok'

well i would do this i mean thats the common thing to do but the file associatoin was already with notepad but there was an error in notepad and now it wont open at all it says that it is not a user program and if i try to find it it says it dosnt exist its an error within windows somewhere but i donno where

You didn't by chance restore to a point where you had a virus or spyware infected system, did you?

In any event, couple of things to try:

1) Overwrite the notepad.exe in C:\Windows\System32 with the notepad.exe found in C:\Windows

2) Start>Run> sfc /scannow

nope i did a complete format and restore so its a fresh install of windows and weekly i run mcafee scanner and my adaware spyware scanner so i dont have any of that floating around on my computer
