I'm a pc building newb, so with that out of the way, I'm about to install the motherboard into the case. What steps do I do? Do I put the cpu in before or after install, what about the heatsink/fan. Anything else I should know(dangers/tips)?

Thanks

make sure that u put the standoffs in the right place and the right amount

best to install CPU, heatsink, and RAM before install of mobo

be EXTREMELY careful installing the heatsink

that's all i can think of at the moment.

Ok Ive got

3 of these weird clip looking things that snap into holes in the case

10 brass standoffs

9 felt washers

assorted screws

the mobo is a gigabyte k8ns pro and the cpu is an athlon64 3000+

heatsink/fan is a gigabyte 3d cooler pro

in my opinion thats the hardest part of building a computer, besides trying not to break the cpu on heatsink install.

don't forget the heatsink compound between the CPU and heatsink.

What does it say?

somethings are easier to determine than others, like PWR = power (obviously)

The pin assignments should be in your mobo manual.

on the motherboards i have seen the pins for the front pannel leds and the on off were in the front bottom corner of the mobo and in your mobo manual there should be a page saying which is witch the only thing u should have a problem with if anything is if they included front usb ports that arnt a solid plug i have seen some that have the 4 different plugs you have to arrange in the right order other than that its simple as far as installin the computer the plastic standoffs are easy but personally i would align the brass standoffs into the correct places on the case install your cpu onto your mobo careful not to apply too much pressure on the actual chip on your amd chipset when dropping in the heatsink just go in lil by lil 1 side at a time then drop in the ram align your wires for your case drop it in and screw it down onto the brass standoffs but dont tighten it down cuz you dont wanna damage the mobo and most important make sure you dont have any stray metal pieces or anyother for that matter under your mobo that will short it out into your case and beyond that install the drives and the cards and u got it made :D
