My Computer Crashed (VBScript error). I want to take out the Hard Drive and Place it in aNew Computer/or use a USB External Device to pull my old stuff from that computer. however, many of the items are Encrypted. How ca I get the Certificate off the Old-Dead Computer/Hard Drive and transfer the data so that I can open it on the new computer...

It is an SSD Laptop hard Driver and it seems that the Hard drive itself is fine. it is just does not get past the windows Ctl Alt delete screen....Never gets to the desk top. I am able to Get the Task manaer up. but it will not allow me to run explorer.exe . . .any help or links to how to gt the encryped stuff moved?

If you don't know what encrypted it, we can't really help. Was it TrueCrypt? PGP? BitLocker? What?

If you're lucky, those files are stand alone encrypted and will just ask for a password.

I am at work right now. I have not checked to see what the encryped them...it may be a work computer thing and their safe guards and they may have to do a data recovery...I will check when I get home on what was/wasn't encryped and then re-post if I tink you can help.

Thanks

The error I get is the File you are trying to open, 'XXX', is in a different format than specified by the file extention. Very that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. . .

it is just an excel (97) but excel none-the less ...word docs do not open either...open not useable

If these files are encrypted at work, you will have to ask the IT guy/gal what encryption program they used and what password was used.

Nasty
