Hello,

I recently purchased a 512 GB OCZ Vertex 4 S.S.D., and decided to do a clean install on the drive. Unfortunately, I am unable to install Windows 7 64-bit onto the S.S.D., as Windows cannot locate the necessary drivers for the device. I've be searching around for solutions, such as drivers, etc, but have found none that will work.

SATA is in ACHI mode
BIOS recognizes the S.S.D.
The S.S.D. is plugged into the first SATA 6.0 outlet on the motherboard.
I've tried using DISKPART to format, create a partition, and assign a driver letter to the disk with success in all areas of doing so, but Windows 7 still refuses to recognize the drive beyond command prompt.
The Windows 7 64-bit installation media is on a flash drive, not a CD.
I am, as of this post, currently installing Ubuntu onto the S.S.D. succesfully, just to see if it will install any OS. The process is currently working.

Any help on this matter would greatly be appreciated.

What is the make and model of the motherboard you have in this system?

Kleinkinstein, you should be able to format the drive in the Windows installation process, even if the drive isn't initialized.

Anyway, I'm curious what the installation says to you OP when you try to install it on the drive. Anyway we can get a camera capture?

You'll most likely need to download the SATA AHCI driver from your motherboard manufacturer website, install them onto a usb drive formated in FAT12, FAT16, or FAT32 ONLY, and install the drivers when Installation is looking for the drive.

I want to thank you guys again for taking the time to help me, it is much appreciated. To begin, I definitely should have added more information, but was too tired to think properly after a few hours of trying to make this S.S.D. work. Here is the info.

My computer specs:

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z77
CPU: Intel Core i7 3770 4 Quad
GPU: Two Crossfired 7970s
Drives: A DVD and Blu-Ray drive both from Asus.
S.S.D.: Vertex 4 M Edition 512GB
PSU: 1000 Watts.
Operating system: Ubuntu 12.04

My current troubleshooting steps:

- I have disabled both physically and in BIOS the SATA ports for the Blu-Ray and DVD drive by both separating them by cable from the motherboard and by disabling the SATA ports in BIOS/CMOS in order to get the S.S.D. working - no luck.

- The S.S.D. is on the FIRST SATA port for SATA III.

- I have formated, made the disk (S.S.D.) an entire partitioned disk, and "cleaned" out the drive by intitializing command prompt inside of the WIndows installer and using DISKPART to format, partition, and clean the disk out.

- I have updated the BIOS to the latest version that Asus has released.

What I plan to try:

- I am going to try to update the firmware on the OCZ Vertex 4 S.S.D.
- Pray to the PC gods.

UPDATE:

I will try your new suggestion to get the AHCI new updates from Asus.

How did you create your bootable USB Key? Did you use this tutorial: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/howtos ... _a_usb_key?

DEFINITELY need the AHCI driver in that case, the generic AHCI driver that is in Windows 7 does not support most new hardware. I believe "Intel AHCI/RAID Driver Disk for Windows XP 32bit & XP 64bit & Win7 32bit & Win7 64bit." is the file you'll need.

If the Vertex 4 was a recent purchase, they've been shipping with the latest firmware since September (correction, both of my Vertex 4's, one ordered 8/11, the second orderd 8/29, arrived with the latest 1.5 firmware), so there's a good chance it's already up to date.

That's definitely one way to do it... the easy way is to use Microsoft's Windows 7 USB tool. Since he's seeing the prompt for drivers as indicated in the two pic's he linked, he has a working USB install disk.

I want to thank everyone here, especially kleinkinstein and chaosdsm for the suggestions. This has been the craziest, longest install of my life, but Windows 7 is finally running on the S.S.D.

I have one last question. My current, main drive is F:/ with the C:/ being unused. Can I switch it over to C:/ without issues with my installation/programs?
