I installed Media Player Classic, and once I did, all my .dat files turned into .vcd. Is there any way to turn them back?

My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate.

This won't work. I'm asking for a permanent fix as to how to change it back, not how to change an individual file back one-by-one.

I'm going to assume that the .dat file is a video file, and not one of the 20+ other uses for the extension. In which case if it is a video file, it's usually VCD anyway.

Keep in mind, if any actual conversion is being done, then you kind of don't want to reconvert it if you want to preserve the quality.

Well, it changes file types depending on which program I use on it for default. (I used media player classic, which changed it to VCD. My parents computer which doesn't have MPC lists it as a .dat file)

The link to the file is here:

you're not helpful at all. I'm far from "fucked" because my computer is still running.

I say don't worry about it if you can play it.

"Play" it? I don't think it's a file that can be "played".

Open up MPC, go to File -> Quick Open, change file type to all, then go find your .vcd files and open them.

"cannot render the file"

Not that that's a big problem or anything.
