I accidently corrupted the HDD in my office PC. I was trying to format a 32GB USB flash drive using Lexar's BootIt utility but mistakenly selected the PC's HDD. Damn.

The HDD is a 250GB Western Digital Caviar with WinXP Pro 32 bit OS. The drive was a single primary active NTFS partition.

Now Acronis Disk Director reports the drive capacity as 100% unallocated space.

There was very little HDD activity during the damage so I believe my actions corrupted the boot sector, partition table.

Is there a tool that can restore the HDD back to its original operational condition?

The files on the drive are very important to my employment, of course.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Thanks for the reply. I tried using Recuva, without success. Recuva was unable to access the unallocated disk space.

Thanks for the reply.

The major problem was the corrupted/ missing MSTs. I did resolve this problem with a combination of tools.

TestDisk from GC Security was used to rebuild the partition table.

GetDataBack from Runtime software was used sacn the drive and to rebuild the file structure.

These tools are truely amazing. Kudos to the developers.

I was able to recover the most critical files.

Done.
