My motherinlaw's HD crashed and I thought the best way to keep her with XP and give her a performance boost would be to install a SSD on her ASUS K8V X SE MB. The HD shows up in the bios, but I get a message that I need two HDs to run raid.

Is that the only setting a MB of this vintage has for SATA?

I have found IDE to SATA conversion kits online. Would one of these solve my issues?
Or would that be a waste of cash?

I want to keep her on XP because anything new is intimidating for her (she's 80) and all she really needs a PC for is email and downloading pictures.

thanks

Check your BIOS settings and make sure the SATA port is not configured for RAID.
