Hello,

I have done a clean install of the factory image from HP. I have a dv4-2045dx. Windows 7 64bit. It continues to load to the boot manager screen and wait for me to select the OS. Only 1 is displayed. I have also went to msconfig - boot and it only shows 1 OS also. I am not sure why it won't just load straight to the login or desktop. I have checked the BIO's to make sure nothing weird is causing it. Nothing seems to fix it. Can someone give me any other ideas to make the boot loader screen go away on its own.

thanks

You typed msconfig in the search box above the start orb and in the boot tab only one os shows? Just trying to clarify this in my head...

yes, and I even unchecked the box to not wait the 30sec. It still just boots straight to the boot manager. Something else I have noticed is if I leave the bluetooth mouse adapter plugged into the usb port the thing just has a black screen and beeps rapidly over and over. It will eventually stop and goto the boot manager screen. I have unplugged it, took the battery out and held in the power button for 30sec to see if it would reset it. I have read that somewhere. When I say I formatted the drive I took it out and wiped all partions. I let the HP Recovery CD's rebuilt the partions as needed.

I don't have a solution per se, but I think you can make this go away by going to Control Panel -> System -> "Advanced System Settings" on the left pane -> "Settings" button in the "Start up and Recovery" section, and uncheck "Time to display list of operating systems". Or set it to a really low number.

That is bizzare. You have eliminated a lot of things. Have your tried running HP's diag in BIOS (F12?), especially checking HDD health?

Or booting up a LiveCD of Ubuntu to see if it too hangs?

HP

I don't know why it would show you the boot manager, but is the drive listed as AHCI instead of 'IDE emulate' in BIOS?

Removed the battery, power cord and the CMOS battery and let it reset everything.
Updated the BIO's to the latest version.
I reseated all the connections on the motherboard that I could access. I was thinking maybe the computer was thinking a key on the keyboard was depressed making it boot to the Boot Manager Screen.
Ran a memory test. Hard drive test. Nothing seems to be bad or anything.

This HP DV4-2045dx laptop I don't see anything in the BIO's I can change that is related to the AHCI instead of 'IDE emulate' in the BIOS

Did you use a utility to format this drive before running the recovery disk set? If not this may be the problem. I reinstalled vista on a friends machine using the recovery disk set and this happened to me too. The recovery disk set may save the old boot record and add to it instead of erasing it and reloading windows.

no, I took the drive out and put it in my sata dock and used disk management on another computer to delete the partions and formated it.

second part of my previous post is another strange issue. If I plug anything into the USB port or put a CD/DVD in the drive when it reboots it just starts beeping over and over until I hit a key on the keyboard then it goes to the boot manager screen and lets me choose the Windows 7 install.

It is trying to boot to the usb device, like I said, go into the bios and set the boot sequence to boot to your hard drive as first boot device, save and exit.

I have done that. I have HD first, internal CD/DVD 2nd, USB ... 3rd. It doesn't seem to care what changes I make.

Try disabling all the other boot options in the bios, only keep the hard drive as the only boot option, then save and exit.

If the above don't work, try this app:

I have installed EasyBCD and chose the "skip the boot menu" and now I get a black screen at the point where the boot manager loads. It just beeps at that point until I hit a key on the keyboard. This is crazy. I have never had this kind of problem after a clean install.

No, you should have just deleted one of the win 7 entries....you will have to start from scratch now, unless you boot into the recovery section and choose rebuild windows.

I only have one Win 7 install. It only shows one OS. I have wiped the drive and did a clean install twice, thinking maybe the first time it had something wrong. For me to do a complete new install after formating the hard drive. It can't be any other than a registry setting or a motherboard jumper. Something crazy like that anyway

I can access windows fine. I just don't like the fact it stops at the boot loader screen. if I have anything in the CD Drive or a usb mouse plugged into a usb port on reboot it will beep continuiosly until I hit a button on the keyboard for it to continue into windows.
