Hello. I’m facing a couple of issues I hope you may help me fix. I’m adding them both here because I don’t know if they’re related.
I have a small home network with two laptops running Windows 7: - Laptop A: running Windows 7 32bits - Laptop B: running Windows 7 64bits - and one Wireless printer.
Both laptops are up to date on their updates.
Issue 1 I’ve always had problems sharing stuff between the two laptops (even using the Home Group). Sometimes they could see each other and suddenly the connection was lost. Until recently I couldn’t pinpoint the cause, but now I’ve noticed that the connection seems to be lost at the same time the following message shows up on the event log:
“The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer <other computer> that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{08144812-DC21-435A-90B5-24A9BAC567C5}. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.”
When this message occurs, the computer on which the master browser is stopped loses access to the other computer and all the network shares no longer work. So basically I can’t stop this service, but if it is running on both laptops, one is shutdown by windows. How do I fix this?
Issue 2 Laptop B can’t ping the printer by name, but laptop A can. Even when Laptop A is the one being disconnected, it can still ping the printer by name. Laptop B can ping the printer by IP and if I use “pathping” it returns the printer name. Since Laptop A works fine it has to be something with Laptop B, but I have no idea what.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. --------------------------- João Vargem
