Maximum PC

If anyone could offer some advice that would be awesome. Ok, my wife turned off my computer via the shut down option in windows 7.

I went to turn the computer on and there is no power, it will not start at all.

I tried swapping out a new power supply with no success. Does anyone have any suggestions for the next option? I was thinking it might be the motherboard?

If there's an LED indicator that was normally on when plugged in but it isn't on (my last board had a power indicator), that's a bad sign.

Silly thing to check, but the switch may have broke. Just pull out the switch header and short the pins. I don't think you have to worry about shorting out the board itself, since there's probably resistors between the pins and ground. I'd still be careful though. If it still doesn't turn on, the motherboard went poof.

Try another electrical socket. This would be my main suspect.

Rule out bad power switch by disconnecting switch cable from MB header and briefly shorting the two pins.

Confirm PSU turns on by shorting green wire with any of the black wires on the 24-pin harness while one or more fans are plugged into the 4-pin molex connectors.

Replace/reseat PSU power cord depending upon results. Check PSU switch if any is on? Reseat power mains on MB, CPU and GPU. And modular connections on GPU.

Do any LEDs glow on PSU, MB, case front or back panel I/O?

It would be highly unusual for there to be power and the PSU functioning if the PSU, CPU and system fans didn't at least try to start up briefly. Though a system short will cause a properly designed PSU to detect the short and immediately shut down the system to protect it. But usually you see a brief movement of the fans.

I did try and use multiple electrical plugs and power strips, with no change.

There is one led light on the back of the case that is blinking, it is where the cat 5 cable plugs in

I havent tried to short out any connections, I wasnt to comfortable with this step, how do I do it?

I did check the power supply, installed new (different) PS with no change

Just get metal tweezers or a paper clip and touch the two leads where the switch is supposed to go.

Did you try pulling the ram and plugging it back in? No ram no start...

call me captain obvious but did ya try
resetting the CMOS ?
if you are not sure about the physical jumper just pull the battery with the power cord removed
and let it sit 30 seconds push the power button once to make sure its drained
then replace the battery and start er up. Worst case, it don't work, but sometimes Computers for what ever reason forget stuff. chalk it up to gremlins if it fixes it.
