So ive been having this issue with my M11X R1. There are 2 memory slots in the motherboard....of course. I have 2 sticks of 2GB Crucial memory 1066MHz each.

Now its giving me 4 beeps at post with no lcd lighting or anything. it means something is wrong with the ram. So i think its a bad ram stick. I go out and buy 2 new sticks of corsair 8GB 1066MHz 4GB each sticks. Still the same thing. So that means that its the ram channel...right?

Well i just replaced the motherboard today, put the corsair sticks in and powered it up...and what do you know. i get the same 4 beeps. I tried the 2 sticks of crucial aswell. BUT, i have a corsair stick in the back and a crucial stick in the from totaling 6GB and it powers up....weird?

Can anyone give me some insight? I just want to be able to run my full 8GB Corsair sticks instead of mixing and matching. Both sets of ram are 1066MHZ.

According to Intel's spec sheet, the GS45 chipset (which the MX11 is based on) can only support 8GB maximum.

EDIT: Oh wait. Never mind, misread this..

Can you not just live with 6GB? I mean, they've been mixing and matching for years. I have an old Compaq laptop with 768MB of ram. using a Kingston 512 and a Corsair 256. Besides, in lab tests, there is a minute difference between 6 and 8 GB, if any.

ive had a few Dells..including a XPS 710,and a Alienware, both had memory limits.

i think the highest speed they would allow was 1333 MHZ.

did those 2 crucial sticks come with this laptop?

i'm betting if you get some 1333 mhz ram your issues will go away.
