Alright PC geniuses Here's the problem.
I have a self built PC that is not booting, I know the power supply works, as all the fans and lights turn on,
But it does not even POST. Here's the specs

AMD Phenom II x4 @3.6GHz
AMD Radeon HD6770 @933MHz
8GB of Team Elite RAM
500GB Hitachi HDD
Foxconn A76ML-K 3.0

The rest shouldn't matter, the power supply works, the cooler shouldn't make a difference, The DVD drive also shouldn't. this is a budget machine, so I can't just swap out parts until it works. I'm hoping that it's not the motherboard, as I'm using OEM windows, so replacing it would blow my budget. Any advise?

Okay, so I went to my local computer store, and got a POST Speaker, just in case it was POSTing, but my video card was broken, and guess what, No beeps. so I'm pretty sure it's my motherboard, although I would like a second opinion.

And I just found out, as long as It's the same model board, I don't need a new copy of windows, right?

Can you boot into a rescue CD? Let's run some tests. You can F10/F12 into your BIOS, right?

Take your pick...
AVG, http://www.avg.com/us-en/avg-rescue-cd
Avira, http://www.avira.com/en/download/produc ... cue-system
Kaspersky, http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/rescuedisk

Does the motherboard support the cpu you are using or do you have to flash the motherboard before it will see it? This happened to me with my Sabertooth motherboard, I had to flash it using a lesser cpu and then when I stuck in the 8 core it worked just fine.

Do you have the correct ram from the QVL list in the motherboard or something else.

Do you have the 4/8 plug in the cpu header on the motherboard?

Do you have the 6/8 pin plug in the back of the video card?

You can use you windows OEM version on many motherboards, This is all I buy and it has worked for me for many years.

Ok, but the way your post is I thought it was a new build that didn't post.

A power supply failing can do this to your pc. Do you have a friend that will lend you a psu for an hour to see if that is the problem?

Try taking the ram out and reseting it, sometimes that does the trick...no ram no post.

You said the video card was faulty, are you using a different one?

How can you figure it is the motherboard if the video card is broken....a little cornfused here....if the video card is broken then it won't post as there will be no picture.

Well OP did mention there's no beeps. However, I'm also wondering if there's even a speaker in the motherboard. It's annoying they just don't include a surface mount piezo buzzer by default.

The way you wrote the post says unequivocally that the video card was broken, no where does it say you were checking to see if it was broken, you stated it was.

No beep code may mean a bad bios, a bad motherboard, or power supply.

I've checked everything, and I'm pretty sure it's my motherboard, so any recommendations for a motherboard? My budget is around $60

For 70 bucks you can have a descent MSI board and not a junk Foxcon board:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813130591

If your present board is still under warranty, RMA it first before buying a new board.

That MSI board is not getting very good reviews, Besides, I've spotted a decent ECS with Great reviews.

Any thoughts?

You may want to confirm a few things before you go out and buy any parts. First, I would inspect the motherboard for swollen capacitors. Not as common today as in years past. See: badcaps.net for pictures to see what to look for. I'd inspect the video card too for bad caps. Not as common as on motherboards. I would also unplug the power supply, hit the power button on the case and then carefully remove the power supply. Look inside of you can for bad caps also. If you cannot see in through vents then you must pull the cover off of the power supply and inspect for bad caps or burned components. It makes little difference as to which motherboard you buy if you have a bad power supply. It could even do damage to the new motherboard or other components.
