Whenever I turn on my new computer it will not post. I have a ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe with the post lights and it always stops at the CPU light and after looking threw the internet I speculate it is a dead CPU. I have never done one of the new style Intel socket builds before and I am just making sure my speculations are confirmed here. I have resocketed it multiple times and it looks like there is no bent pins on the socket (but I really dont know as I have no clue what a bent socket pin looks like). Any help would be appreciated.

If that light's on and you get nothing after reseating, it's dead.

Thanks. It was a brand new Ivy Bridge right out of the box. Does this happen normally. Another reason I also asked this question was that it sounded like the pins were scraping across the bottom of the cpu... is that sound normal... I am freaking out as I just dumped a lot of money in this.

What CPU did you get and what other items are in your build, it could be that the CPU is too new for the board and needs a BIOS flash for it to be recognized and get it working?

i5-3750K for the cpu... the bios wont update using bios flashback (such a cool tool but I can not for the life of me figure it out) and the computer wont say on long enough to get into setup...

So the machine is rebooting? Is the CPU fan spinning? Did you make sure that the fan is attached to the CPU header and not a chassis header? I would remove the entire assembly from the case, and try running it on the box that the mobo came in, and make sure that you don't have a stray standoff shorting something out.

The case I have (the Corsair Graphite 600T) has pre-built standoffs... so I dont know if booting it outside of the case will do anything... I have the CPU fan right... I will check stuff out though tonight if anybody has different ideas.

Just out of curiosity, you do have the CPU Aux power hooked in, yes?

Yes I do. I just tested it out of the box and it still turns on then off (I think it is the mobo doing as it sees no cpu). Also all of the fans spin up.
