The problem: On frequent occasions, when I watch videos online and sometimes from hard drive, or listen to any audio tracks from iTunes, my computer will violently lock up and start making horrendous crackling and static noises. I can't move the mouse or use the keyboard. There is no video distortion, but if any audio is playing it's terrible sounding.

What I have done:
I have replaced the graphics card, still happens
I have replaced the hard drive and installed a fresh copy of W7, as well as installed a fresh copy of W7 on older hard drive, still happens.
Switched out my RAM with a completely different brand, but same type, speed, and size... still happens but less frequently.
Cleaned out my registry multiple times a day at boot up, still happens.
Changed keyboard, still happens.
Dusted and cleaned inside and outside of PC, still happens.

Misc: I haven't been playing any video games so I haven't encountered it while playing games, because well...I haven't been playing any. And for those of you telling me I should update my VGA drivers, I can't...because ATI Radeon 5870 driver version 12.4 will not install, and 12.3 causes BSOD, so I am stuck with 12.2.

My PC:
Coolermaster V8 Core i7 CPU Cooler
6GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 Tri Channel / OR / OCZ Gold Series 6GB DDR3 Tri Channel
Core i7 920, not OC'ed
Asus Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5
Asus mATX GENE Rampage II LGA 1366 motherboard
LG Blu-Ray Drive
OCZ Vertex II Agility 64GB SSD
Seagate 1.5 TB HDD
Kingston 1000W Modular power supply

ok..i'm bettin it is strictly sound related.

with that said..you never mentioned..if you have a sound card or on onboard sound,

first i would update your sound card/motherboard audio drivers.

get sound drivers in order, and maybe your newest ATI drivers will install.

ive seen worse things happen.

Here's a quick update.

I've been playing Diablo III for about three hours and nothing.

I went to go watch some video online and within the first few minutes it locked up again. BUT this time my motherboard reset itself, I know this because it tried to boot up with my second HDD, not my primary.

I will try updating sound drivers...
